Like happy endings, death is also an indispensable element in Hollywood movies. However, some of the characters only dies for death’s sake. There is no proper cause and good timing, some of the deaths are totally avoidable. In these cases, it’s better to keep them alive a little bit longer, for the movie’s sake.

Here are 20 most pointless movie deaths in history that you wish never happened.

20. Batman

The Movie Death: The Joker attempts a last gasp escape via helicopter, only for the Dark Knight to shackle his leg to a gargoyle. Gravity does the rest.

Why It’s Pointless: The Joker could have been snared without actually dying. Batman doesn’t kill people, and yet he effectively does for his rival here.

19. Predator

The Movie Death: Blain Cooper makes an early exit after the Predator sucker-punches him right through the chest. Kapow!

Why It’s Pointless: You know the wisecracking comic foil has likely got his card marked, but doing away with Blain with so much of the movie left to run seems like a real waste. He’s the most charismatic character, and yet he buys it in such throwaway fashion!

18. The Dark Knight Rises

The Movie Death: Bane proves himself a ruthless taskmaster by airily disposing of one of his own henchmen in Gotham’s sewer system. Could he not have just put him on gardening leave?

Why It’s Pointless: The poor guy doesn’t really deserve it for one, but taking even that aside, surely a plan of Bane’s magnitude requires as much manpower as possible? Even lowly henchmen have their uses…

17. The Godfather Part 3

The Movie Death: Michael Corleone grabs at his chest, before slumping dead to the floor in the grounds of Don Tommasino’s Sicilian villa.

Why It’s Pointless: Michael’s story arc has already been completed with the death of his daughter. Seeing his own demise feels like an unnecessary afterthought.

Horror films tend to follow the same concept and an element of excitement arises when filmmakers claim to have a film that is original, terrifying, the scariest film in years. A majority of the time the only feeling that is experienced is strong disappointment. Recent years have seen the horror film industry at its all time lowest with one terrible film after another. Audiences are tired of seeing the same format time and time again… Young pretty people being stranded in a remote location with no phones, cars or way of getting away from the psychopath that wants to mutilate them.

There have been some truly awful films, claiming to be the scariest of all time, and the list below are by far the worst…

10. Silent Hill

Silent hill is a popular playstation game that was turned into a film, the game is scary and unnerving for players and despite the surreal concept, there is a genuine feeling of fear and discomfort. The characters are perfect for the gaming world as are the creatures that have to be battled.

The big screen version does not live up to expectations and the adaption does not work effectively with the big screen version appearing to be silly and unrealistic. The purpose of some horror films is to make audiences believe that it could happen and this is simply not the case with this film.

9. House of Wax

There is little to say about this film other than the fact it was simply awful and Paris Hilton was the lead, one way to completely ruin the credibility of a film. Another clichéd horror movie that consists of young beautiful people that spend most of their time running and screaming at each other before the inevitable happens and they are murdered.

There are parts of the film that were surprisingly jumpy and gross and did shock audiences but not to the extent that was promised. It is just another example of a bad teeny slasher horror film that is labelled as a true horror.

The screentest is the last hurdle an actor has to jump over before being given the role that could change his or her life forever. A nobody can instantly become a somebody, or an actor can just continue the struggle of looking for work. For most of the talented actors on this list, these auditions became their golden tickets to their most legendary roles. For the rest few, something was missing there.

Let’s take a look at some of the great movie screen test videos in which the stars brought their best to the table and finally convinced the casting director of their potentials.

20. Johnny Depp

The Test: Depp goes Chaplin-esque in these technical tests for Benny And Joon.

Magic Moment: The crazed smile Depp cracks after completing his Gold Rush-riffing dance of the bread rolls.

19. Gerard Butler

The Test: This might look like a joke, but Butler is auditioning for the title role in Dracula 2000. Spoiler: he got the part.

Magic Moment: The camp ending, as Butler glides backwards and falls asleep into what we’re guessing is an imaginary coffin.

18. Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby

The Test: The Juno co-stars rehearse the lines that would make their names, hitting the rhythms of Diablo Cody’s dialogue so naturally it’s no wonder they got the parts.

Magic Moment: Page is outstanding throughout, but Thirlby trumps her with a delivery of a single word – “Gruesome!” – that captures the teenage mind’s mix of shock and boredom.

17. Hugh Jackman

The Test: Jackman’s read-through with Bryan Singer for X-Men isn’t as intense as a screentest proper (which might explain why, initially, he didn’t get the part!) but it gives a flavour the actor finding the character he’d become synonymous with.

Magic Moment: Jackman forgets his next line! See, it happens even to major stars.

Great attention to detail is often an important part of what defines a great movie. It’s also the feature that separates the auteurs from the directors who just turn up on the set to get paid and abuse the catering budget.

In most cases, directors will spend as much time as the production schedule will allow them to imbue their movies with as many fine details as they possibly can. Whereas these directors are merely passionate, there are some directors who are completely insane – so much so, in fact, that they’re just as concerned with an object in the background of the frame that nobody will ever see as they are the opening credits.

They are perfectionists who will not stop shooting until they achieve exactly what they want. That’s why it takes some directors years to make a picture, and that’s why some of the greatest directors only made less than a dozen of films in their career. These directors are to be admired for their devotion.

To celebrate such delirious dedication on account of some of the world’s most beloved filmmakers, here’s 20 movies with insane details that you’ve probably never noticed…

20. The Last Of The Mohicans

The Movie: Michael Mann teams up with Daniel Day-Lewis for this brutal account of the French-Indian war. Day-Lewis might be a renowned method actor, but in working with Mann, he must have felt he’d met his match.

Attention To Detail: Having already spent six months bulking up and learning to use the weapons appropriate to his character, Day-Lewis reported back to Mann, only to be sent out to the nearest wilderness for a fortnight before filming. So keen was Mann to achieve the appropriate sense of realism, that he instructed his star only to eat what he could catch. Whatever you say, boss…

19. The Amazing Spider-Man

The Movie: Marc Webb’s Spidey reboot wasn’t universally loved by the fans, but there was plenty to enjoy, not least the sparky chemistry between leads Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. And Webb himself had certainly done his homework when it came to the comic-books…

Attention To Detail: Several of the film’s scenes are loving recreations of specific panels from the comics. For example, Peter’s tinkering at his work-bench is lifted directly from the Ultimates book, and the first leap he takes from the bridge to go in pursuit of the Lizard assumes a body pose familiar to many of his on-page outings. Anyone can throw in obscure in-jokes, but getting movement and poses right takes a little more effort.

18. Back To The Future

The Movie: Robert Zemeckis’ time travel caper is a near perfect slice of family entertainment, boasting not one but two of cinema’s best-loved characters in the form of Marty McFly and Doc Brown. Great Scott!

Attention To Detail: The film is absolutely bursting with in-jokes and references. Examples? How about theme song practitioner Huey Lewis turning up on the judging panel of the school talent contest? Or the fact that Marty travels back to 1955, the year of Einstein’s death, after whom Doc’s dog is named? Or the name “Peabody” on the mailbox of the farmer Marty drops in on, who goes on to refer to his son as “Sherman”? The list goes on…

17. X-Men 2

The Movie: Brian Singer builds on his original X-Men movie with real gusto, liberating himself from origin story constraints to conjure up one of the best comic-book movies of recent years. We really wish he’d stuck around to see that Phoenix story arc through, mind…

Attention To Detail: When Mystique hacks into Stryker’s computer database, a whole host of X-Men trivia can be seen listed, including the names of such mutant luminaries as Gambit, Silver Samurai, Deadpool, Omega Red and many more. One for the pause button there…

The most exciting part of an action-packed movie is either a fight or a chase. Over a century of movie history, people have invented all kinds of chases as highlights of the movies, the most frequent type of film chase is the car chase. It is almost always between hero and villain, criminal and police, with more than a few vehicles involved in the most spectacular examples. The fast-moving scenes of the car chase very often feature high-speed maneuvering, crashes, and point-of-view perspectives to enhance the action and excitement.

Here we have 20 greatest chase scenes in movie history that will make you hold your breath for a while.

20. The Blues Brothers

The Chase: Involving the destruction of what feels like hundreds of cop cars, not to mention the Dixie Square Mall, this is a gleeful action sequence that also brings the funny.

Pause For Breath When: The brothers step out of their car – and it collapses into pieces.

19. Terminator 2: Judgement Day

The Chase: James Cameron ups the ante with his sci-fi sequel as three vehicles are involved in a thrilling chase – John Connor’s on a mini-bike, the T-800’s steering a Harley Davidson, and the T-1000’s got a semi-tractor-trailer cab.

Pause For Breath When: The T-800 launches through the air into the canal. If you look closer, you can see it’s a stunt guy, but that doesn’t ruin the magic.

18. The Matrix Reloaded

The Chase: Trinity attempts to evade two pasty-faced, dreadlock-haired twins by racing the wrong way down a motorway – and she’s not even wearing a helmet. Thrilling stuff.

Pause For Breath When: Neo (Keanu Reeves) swoops in and saves the day. It’s handy having a Superman on your team.

17. To Live And Die In L.A.

The Chase: Car-lover William Petersen’s Christmasses all come at once in this ridiculously awesome car chase, in which Petersen drives his Chevrolet the wrong way down LA’s 710 freeway.

Pause For Breath When: The bad guys escape, but Petersen’s resolve to catch them doubles.

There is a famous quote in Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina: “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” Under the context of this list, we can paraphrase it as ”Normal families are all alike; every weird family is weird in its own way.”

If all the members in the family are weirdos, it’s not hard to find out why the whole family is dysfunctional.

Let’s take a look at the 20 weirdest families in movies.

20. The McAllisters (Home Alone)

The Family: To lose one of your children en route to a Christmas holiday seems careless at best and negligent at worst. But to do it twice? What’s wrong with these people?

Strangest Member: Peter McAllister, the family patriarch, who seems weirdly sanguine about the whole affair.

19. The Cullens (Twilight)

The Family: A brood of centuries-old bloodsuckers, masquerading as teenagers and attending the local high school. Creepy as anything.

Strangest Member: Edward, a hundred-year-old man who falls for a teenager.

18. The Simpsons (The Simpsons Movie)

The Family: Everyone’s favourite clan of warts-and-all Americans, who are every bit as loveable as they are dysfunctional. George Bush famously suggested America should be “more like The Waltons and less like The Simpsons”, but then, his family aren’t without their flaws…

Strangest Member: Poor, bumbling Grandpa, who seldom says anything that makes much sense.

17. The Hoods (The Ice Storm)

The Family: A chronically uncommunicative bunch who find themselves wrapped up in their own problems. The parents’ marriage is dead in the water, the daughter is worryingly sexually precocious and the son has a flourishing drug habit. Welcome to suburbia!

Strangest Member: Young Paul, who drugs his friend in an attempt to get into Katie Holmes’ pants, before accidentally drugging her too. Enough with the drugs!

We love cameos in movies, don’t we? It’s especially interesting when it’s extremely unexpected, and if they are playing themselves or some kind of silly version of themselves – all the better.

It’s all about recognizing the kind of person you are perceived to be, and then playing off that in a way that makes the audience realize that you are in on the joke. If a celebrity is willing to do that, it’s instant coolness.

Here are 20 famous people playing themselves in movies, tell us what’s your favorite!

20. Bruce Campbell (My Name Is Bruce)

Real-life version: Something of a cult hero among movie geeks for his role as Ash in the Evil Dead trilogy.

Movie version: Campbell also directed this tale starring himself as himself – who is then mistaken for his Evil Dead character and ask to help the locals fend off a monster. Irony ensues.

19. Bruce Willis (What Just Happened)

Real-life version: Charismatic leading man actor who used to be married to Demi Moore and made one of the greatest action movies of all time.

Movie version: Makes fun of himself as a demanding actor who won’t shave his beard off for a role. Which is obviously nothing like him whatsoever. Interestingly, in the book by producer Art Linson the film is based on, the star who wouldn’t shave his beard is Alec Baldwin.

18. Marshall McLuhan (Annie Hall)

Real-life version: Academic McLuhan became known for his writings on culture and for coining the phrase: The medium is the message.

Movie version: In a brilliant piece of wish fulfilment, Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) gets annoyed at a couple debating McLuhan’s work in a cinema queue and pulls the man himself into the discussion to refute their theories.

17. Mike Tyson (Black & White)

Real-life version: One of the greatest boxers of all-time had an astonishing fall from grace after being imprisoned for rape. His rehabilitation continues. With a face tattoo.

Movie version: You might think we would have chosen The Hangover. But no, Tyson’s appearance in this 1999 indie is way more interesting. Propositioned by Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Tyson lashes out in anger – and it looks all too real. Some behind-the-scenes rumours suggest it was, after director James Toback decided not to tell Tyson what Downey Jr. was going to do.

Ever since the beginning of cinema there have been plenty of overlooked performances. In each actor’s career there will be one or two performances that he/she aren’t ever truly recognized for, which is a true shame due to the work that’s usually put into portraying a character. From the much longer list I originally composed, I’ve narrowed it down to 10 of the most underrated character portrayals in recent memory. Overlooked by either filmgoers, or The Academy Awards, these performances should have been recognized more greatly.

10. Michael Parks as Texas Ranger Earl McGraw in From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, Death Proof, and Planet Terror.

You know that when one of today’s greatest directors (Quentin Tarantino) considers a man “the world’s greatest living actor”, there’s something special about him. As Earl McGraw, Parks brings the character to life through a thick, Southern accent and a long, slow pace. He appears in Tarantino’s Universe several times, usually briefly, and mainly serves the “Soap-Opera-Technique” (as my English teacher calls it) to the audience through his humorous puns and monologues.

9. Nicolas Cage as Terence McDonagh in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

This film, along with Cage, received a LOT of grief, and I can’t see why. This is one of Werner Herzog’s greatest directorial efforts, and it features Nicolas Cage’s greatest performance of the last 20 years. I don’t think there could have been a better actor to play the role of McDonagh. Sure, Nicolas Cage isn’t the greatest of actors, especially due to his more recent roles, but give the man credit for being so fearless with his acting. As Ebert put it, and this is the perfect way of describing the actor, “Cage doesn’t care if you think he goes over the top. If a film calls for it, he will climb to the top hand over hand with bleeding fingernails.” That’s 100% true, and is definitely visible in Bad Lieutenant.

A good horror film is usually judged on one single most important criteria: its scare factor. If it possesses moments that make you jump out of your seat – all the better. There can be moments that frighten you so much, you never forget them. The following horror movie scenes, they still have an effect on me even after repeat viewings. These moments become iconic and stick with the viewers forever.

If you are anything like me, you have waiting for almost a year for the debut of Iron Man 3. We’ve been seeing trailers for months, and to have finally seen the movie my biggest hope was confirmed. Iron Man 3 was good. I was seriously nervous about it.

See, Marvel Phase 1 set a new standard for what superhero movies can be. We’ve come a long way in the last decade, and we have been treated to some real gems. Have you watched Batman Begins? It is brilliant. The first Iron Man was a huge gamble that payed off and started a train of great movies that led to the crowning jewel of superhero movies, The Avengers.

It wasn’t but a few years ago that superhero movies were…..let’s go with not great.

It’s time for a trip down memory lane folks. At Follow Networks, we are constantly writing and creating content that takes its cues and inspiration from movies and comic books, and we find ourselves talking superheros frequently. Today, we are going to give you a look at some of the worst superhero movies ever made, and let me be the first to tell you, this is quite a list. With all the recent success at the box office, the impressive amount of zeros that accompany superhero movies box office sales, and the charming good looks of RDJ, you might have forgotten about some of these instant…classics….

So here we go. The 10 worst superhero movies ever made. Hit the comments below to tell us which one you think is the worst.

10. The Meteor Man (1993)

Man gets hit in the chest with a meteor (as we all often do, amiright?) and he gains super powers to fight those who are causing trouble on the streets of his town. Holy wow. What a premise.

And guess what!? The movie sucks just as much as you might imagine that it does!!! Who could ever believe it?!?

Robert Townsend turns in a less than stellar performance surrounded by an actually very impressive cast. James Earl Jones, Don Cheadle, Eddie Griffin, Bill Cosby. So much possibility for comic gold with this group, but nothing ever really happens to give you anything close what should happen.

This was an attempt to create a superhero concept and cash in at the box-office, draw on these huge talents’ audience, and make something meaningful.

No. They wanted to make a popcorn movie. I’ll be honest, I’ve seen this movie a number of times and it has some laughs, but it should still be a part of this list.
