terrifying kids movies

All of us have watched these kids’ movies and even have a few favorites. But here are some terrifying moments in some famous kids movies that will have you think twice before you show them to your kids.

10. Coraline

This animated movie has a little girl with a curious nature falling into a world that’s both plain weird and a little wonderful. The battle scene would have been a bit humorous if it weren’t so freaky. The little girl actually battles it out with a hand of the witch – a severed hand. And there’s also a woman who looks a lot like her mother who steals the souls of little children and their eyes too.

9. Rio

An adorable movie about Rio and Jewel – two blue macaws and probably the last ones of their kind and their adventure. A movie filled with otherwise cute and funny moments, the scenes where the evil white cockatoo enter are sure to leave the young ones scared. His red eyes and the long talons and the villainous nature just make him scarier.

Oh god, that Willy Wonka scene used to scare me to death when
I was a kid. So creepy. Same goes for the Judge Doom scene. That’s priceless.

  • Ed Bookman

Great list. Donald freaking out in Mickey and The Beanstalk is disturbingly hilarious. He doesn’t cope with adversity very well. He’s kind of like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.

Another film I’d like to see on the list is Toy Story 3. There’s a pretty grim scene in that film when Andy’s toys are about to get incinerated at the landfill. What makes it disturbing is the fact that these innocuous playthings must come to grips with their own mortality. There’s a moment of death looming over the film that makes it pretty heavy for a kid’s movie.
