The 10 Best Superhero Movies of the Last Decade
From 2002 to 2012 there have been a multitude of superhero movies made. Even before that the superhero genre was a popular movie stand by. But which ones make the grade and which ones fell flat? This is my list of the ten best superhero movies of the last ten years, in order by year released:
1. Spider-Man (2002)
The first Spider-Man movie is one I remember with fondness. After years of cartoons I could finally see my favorite superhero come to life. Though I was not overly fond of the casting choices, the movie worked well and was a blockbuster hit. It revived the franchise and led to two sequels and now a remake.
The story of Spider-man’s origin is one that we can all relate to, as are the conflicts of his everyday life. That is why Spider-man is such a popular superhero. He could be your best friend or even yourself. He is the everyman who tries his best to be responsible in a world that does not want his help. There is a powerful underlying message in the Spider-man movies, especially this first one.
With decent special effects and pretty good acting, the 2002 Spider-man movie is worth seeing, even if you have seen the remake already. The sequels… not so much.
2. The Incredibles (2004)
This animated hit by Disney Pixar is a treat for the whole family. With a humorous take on superheroes and their plight in the real world we can all relate to the dad who goes to work in a mindless cubicle all day long. The shy teenage daughter and rebellious young son are also characters that children could relate to and sympathize with. The mom, overworked and stress, is literally stretched to the max. They all do their best to stay together as a family even under attack and in fact grow stronger.
Full of action, adventure, humor and the great computer animation that Pixar is known for, this cartoon is one to check out with your kids.
