If you’ve ever tried to look up where some of your favorite movies have been filmed, you might have ended up disappointed. As you have probably discovered, the majority of movies are filmed in studios in LA, NYC, or London. Even though you probably can’t see the inside of the studios where your favorite movies were shot, not all hope is lost, because you can still see some of the more famous outdoor filming sites.

The folks over at Travelex Currency Exchange created this map of filming locations from IMDB’s top 250 movies, so you can find out where all your favorites were filmed. You can click any filming location on the map to see what movie/s where filmed there, or you can search for your favorite movie’s filming locations using the search bar on the right.

Yes, the majority of movies were filmed in LA, NYC, or London, but you might be surprised at some of the other filming locations. Who knew that Batman Begins was partly filmed in Iceland? The top ten movies alone were filmed in over 155 locations, ranging from New Zealand to Puerto Rico. With so many options, trying to decide which filming locations to visit might be a bit overwhelming. To make it easier for you, here’s out list of top five US film destinations to visit.

1. New York, New York

Thousands of famous movies have been filmed in the city that never sleeps, including The Departed, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Batman Begins, Scarface, The Bourne Ultimatum, and 12 Angry Men. NYC is a must-see for any movie lover.

2. Hollywood, California

Like NYC, Hollywood almost goes without saying if you want to see where the most famous movies are filmed. The movie capital of the world is where The Dark Knight, Fight Club, Inception, Casablanca, Forrest Gump, and Back to the Future were filmed.

3. Boston, Massachusetts

Boston provides a great backdrop to some of the most action-packed, nitty-gritty movies, including Good Will Hunting, The Departed, and Shutter Island.

4. Chicago, Illinois

Once home the American mob scene, Chicago is the natural choice for many action and thriller movies, including The Sixth Sense, The Dark Knight and Batman Begins.

5. Las Vegas, Nevada

Vegas is notorious for parties, gambling, luxury, and crime—making it the perfect place to film movies full of suspense and humor, like Ocean’s Eleven, 21, The Hangover, and Rush Hour.
