Best Halloween Costumes from a Horror Movie
Film characters, whether good, bad or evil, make great subjects for costumes. Nothing could be more appropriate for a Halloween costume than a creepy character from a horror film. Looking back on the most iconic characters from scary movies in cinema history, there are a good handful of costumes that come to mind.
Dracula
Dracula is a classic costume choice that has been popular since Bela Lugosi brought Bram Stoker’s much loved bloodsucker to life on the big screen in 1931. Blood sucking fiends seem never to go out of fashion. It must be the stylish black cape, the ivory complexion, and those long, sharp pearly whites that make the blood thirsty Count Dracula popular. While the Count is a great choice, there are plenty of other petrifying characters from which to choose.
Psycho
If Dracula is not your cup of tea, there’s also the tried and true image of a tall, skinny psychopath carrying a large knife and wearing his mother’s clothes would frighten children and adults alike. That classic film, Psycho, and its star psychopathic murder, Norman Bates, will never stop fascinating and terrifying viewers.
Chucky
Let us not forget the wicked little doll Chucky. He is evil personified and extremely intimidating with that deep voice and those killer eyes. A Chucky costume is sure to scare any passersby.
Jason from Friday the 13th
One of the scariest film franchises of all time has to be Friday the 13th and its star, Jason, is the reason why. Hockey mask, sickle, and the uncanny ability to sneak in and out of buildings without detection makes this haunt extra horrific. It has never been clear whether he is a ghost or a man. Regardless, he is frightening and a great option to scare anyone in the vicinity.
Scream
How do average high school kids turn into sadistic, homicidal maniacs? They throw on black cloaks, put on creepy masks, grab big knives and voila! Those kids from Scream lend themselves perfectly to an easy and ghoulish Halloween costume.
Freddy Krueger
One of the most menacing characters in horror movies lives in both dreamland and reality, and makes for a hair-raising Halloween costume. That is Freddy Krueger. The long, sharp steel blades on his hands, the dirty striped sweater, and his inhuman face make Freddy terrifying and downright memorable. What could be scarier than a monster waiting for you in your dreams, unless said monster is ringing your doorbell on October 31.
Edward Scissorhands
If you were old enough to watch movies back in the early 90s, you would certainly remember the unforgettable character of Edward Scissorhands so convincingly played by Johnny Depp. He had a somewhat heartwarming story, Edward Scissorhands, but his overall look, big messy hair, high-collar black shiny outfit, and menacing hands make a great Halloween costume idea.
Beetlejuice
Along the same time in movie history as Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice is a truly iconic character in the genre of weird scary movies. His persona is that of your typical crazy genius, and his outfit is very recognizable with the bold black and white site, painted face, and poufy white hair, making for a great Halloween costume idea for young and old.
There are many suitable monsters and villains for extra chilling and fun Halloween costumes. An added bonus is that you can probably pull off a do-it-yourself version of many of these costume options due to their recognizable features. Dressing up like your favorite murderer can be a hoot, as long as it’s only once a year.
